Timelessly, both in Athens and globally, some barber shops were and still are not merely grooming spots, but spaces that offer experiences and exude personality. Today, in the most refined of their kind, from the moment you walk through the door, you are greeted by an atmosphere that blends modern with retro, luxury with urban elements.
Barber shops have always served as spaces for socializing, like hangouts for relaxed conversations. At the same time, Athens has evolved into a capital of quality coffee, so much so that we no longer speak only of cafés or specialty coffee shops. Good coffee is everywhere: from bookstores and concept stores to clothing shops – and now even in a barber shop. Enjoying a perfectly crafted espresso while getting a haircut or waiting for your turn undeniably elevates the experience.
At the Melas shopping center in Kifisia, Old Boy is a place with a “dοuble life”. It is more than just a barber shop, as it also functions as a café. The space harmoniously combines different materials and textures, from mosaic with cement screed, wood with marble, to metallic details.
The classic sinks paired with vintage gold faucets provide a timeless sense of elegance. The design is completed with furniture such as Seletti chairs designed by Studio Job, Magis stools designed by Naoto Fukasawa, and the Solo Athens sofa. In this elegant setting, graffiti by the artist Basement Rats adds a street touch, creating an interesting contrast. In this interior design by studiomateriality, the luxury of materials meets urban aesthetics, offering a complete experience that combines personal care with style and the aromas of fine coffee.
