YOKAI is a bold exploration into atmospheric storytelling through space, blending interior design with immersive brand identity to create a night bar experience that feels both enigmatic and inviting.
Drawing inspiration from the mysterious allure suggested by its name, Yokai, the folkloric spirits and supernatural beings from Japanese tradition, the project transforms a social venue into a realm that feels alive after dark. The design balances playful expression with refined spatial composition, where materiality, lighting, and visual cues converge to craft an environment that feels both intriguing and welcoming.
Every element, from the rhythm of light and shadow to the tactile finishes and graphic expressions, is conceived to evoke a sense of discovery. The interior unfolds like a narrative, encouraging visitors to engage, linger, and connect. With YOKAI, Studio Materiality reimagines nightlife as a dynamic cultural experience, where design and brand coalesce into a distinctive urban destination.
