Titanas, is an up-and-coming kafenio (traditional Greek coffee shop) in the city of Athens. Studiomateriality was inspired by those traditional local cafés that built their value and intimacy through time and use by their regulars. Within a limited space one can find the most “titanic” creative opportunities. The purpose is to evoke memories to those who know, and to excite the inexperienced. In Titanas, interior design is a fascinating time machine. It’s a tiny and cozy coffee shop, with a 1983 Memphis Ceiling light, a Lego replica of the Titanic made from 9000 pieces, a hand-drawn old Greek advert and a framed modern scarf created by Klelia Andrali. Conflicting seasonal items blur the boundaries between today and yesterday. A new spot for the Athenian audience, with the kitchen seemingly accessible to everyone, and camping table seats for a comfortable stay. The facade with its large windows and vintage signs remain, as a tribute to the space’s older identity, but the clean shape of the font in the logo bring a touch of contemporaneity to the project.
Titanas is the café next door – in sync with the place where it’s located, it radiates an atmosphere drawn from our most carefree summers. Beer and Greek delicacies please?
